
2012 Daniel J. Gallivan Award
SUZANNE POULIN
The Daniel J. Gallivan Awar recipient shall be a long standing member of this Association who, while not a resident of the City of Holyoke, has made significant contributions to the overall success of the parade and/or our Association.
Suzanne (Morin) Poulin has been a member of the Holyoke St. Patrick’s Committee since 2002. In the past she has worked on the Awards subcommittee and was co‐chair, then the chair of the JFK Award Reception (also known as the Bishop’s Reception) Committees. Currently, the committees that Sue serves on include Bereavement, Colleen Pageant, Golf, Memorial Mass, and Party after the Parade. In addition, she is a member of the Board of Directors.
Involvement with the parade committee began in 1989 where as an employee for PeoplesBank, she worked on the internal “going ons” along the side of the Marketing manager. It was here where “Suzie Leprechaun” came to light for the road race and at times, the parade.
Sue is originally from Berlin, New Hampshire and has lived in Chicopee with her husband Robert since 1970. They have one daughter Michelle, a health education teacher with the Framingham school system. She has two grandsons, Jack (8) who is in the 3rd grade and Ben (5) is in kindergarten.
Volunteering her time is a passion of Sue’s. In the past, you would find her helping at Celebrate Holyoke and BrewFest. Currently, she assists with the Holyoke Merry Go Round fund raisers, American Cancer Society serving as finance chair, WGBY, American Legion Auxiliary, Chicopee Memorial Day Parade and in September was one of the many Holyoke Parade members who helped with the town of Ware’s 250th Anniversary Parade. Sue can be found at the Fairview Knights of Columbus weekly bingo games and the annual Thanksgiving Day dinner.
Sue attended school in New Hampshire and completed banking courses in Western Massachusetts and in Connecticut. She is presently completing her coursework at Holyoke Community College and will be graduating with an Associates Degree in Business Administration.
St. Anne’s Church in Chicopee is her parish where she is active as a counter, and Eucharistic Minister. Sue assigns the lector schedule and is on the 100th Anniversary Committee. She is employed at the American Legion Post #438 in Chicopee as the weekend manager and also at Your Everlasting Solution in West Springfield as the office manager.
